There has been a steady rise in resident parking permit schemes and controlled parking zones (CPZs) across London in recent years. This is not surprising when one considers that the number of cars registered in the capital has gone up by 10% to 2.6m in the last decade. Meanwhile, parking provision has not increased, resulting in more conflict between residents, commuters and shoppers for increasingly scarce onstreet parking space.
