Australia Seminar - PedBikeTrans

Justifying expenditure on walking projects can sometimes be challenging but there are now some good examples which we could draw on to help justify projects in Australia.

This presentation focuses on two case studies from the United Kingdom which have far reaching effects for investment in walking:

1. Establishing a statistical link between good street design and retail rents, and how this is now used in the UK Commission on Architecture and Built Environment's "Streets paved with gold" study.

2. How London made the business case for a new pedestrian/cycle bridge linking the Isle of Dogs and the Rotherhithe Peninsula. This included forecasting of demand and mode shift and the completion of an appraisal including journey time, health and regeneration impacts.
