Kingston businesses are joining forces to set up a Business Travel Network to promote active and environmentally friendly forms of transport.
Colin Buchanan (CB) is working on behalf of Kingston Council to set up a Business Travel Network in Kingston town centre. CB has been surveying staff in the town centre to find out how they currently travel to work and what would help them to choose an alternative to the private car or an active mode (walking and cycling) instead of public transport.
CB are tasked with working with businesses to provide them and their staff with the necessary tools to choose an alternative, save money, be more active on their commute and contribute towards their carbon reduction and environmental targets.
Employers and employees can take advantage of a variety of benefits that will help them to choose an alternative to the private car. Some of the benefits include:
The network will launch in May after which CB will work with individual businesses to develop travel plans (a document which informs the business how they can promote walking, cycling, car sharing and public transport to their site). Members of the Business Travel Network will be sent regular updates on the benefits available to their staff and sent regular information regarding upcoming events such as town centre Doctor Bikes and Bike Maintenance training.
Businesses will be contacted a year on to find out what they thought about the information and advice received and whether or not it has influenced their staff travel choices.
