Kochi, 28 June, 2008: SmartCity Kochi, a self-sustained business township for knowledge-based companies, announced the appointment of Colin Buchanan its masterplanners.

Apart from state-of-the-art intelligent office space, SmartCity Kochi will offer business support services as well as residential, hospitality, retail, and recreational facilities. “Our aim is to establish SmartCity Kochi as the heart of the emerging knowledge-based industry of the region.

On the appointment of Colin Buchanan as the masterplanner, Fareed Abdulrahman commented, “SmartCity will develop the masterplan in consultation with Colin Buchanan; at the same time we will continue to actively consult the state government and the local community on our joint IT/ITES vision to ensure the success of the self-sustained business township”.

SmartCity’s LEED(R) – the world’s premier certification programme for sustainable buildings – guidelines will be adhered to by Colin Buchanan, and all its contractors and consultants, in the design and construction of its infrastructure and buildings.
