Middlesbrough MSCP Feasibility Study

Colin Buchanan has won the commission from Middlesbrough Borough Council to investigate the feasibility of a new multi-storey car park in Middlesbrough town centre.

This study will be undertaken with the support of architects Haskoll, structural engineers Ramboll, and cost consultants Cyril Sweett.

A potential need for additional long stay parking capacity to serve the town centre has been identified by stakeholders. This study will establish objectively whether more parking is required to support the future viability and vitality of the town centre. If more parking is required the study aims to determine how much additional capacity is required, over what timescale it needs to be provided, where any new car park should be located, how much it will cost, and how it can be delivered.

The study has commenced with a comprehensive assessment of the current parking supply, demand and management, and an assessment of how demand is likely to grow in the future. Based on the projected need for any additional parking capacity the project team will then assess potential sites with regards to their capacity, planning and regeneration impacts, transport impacts, environmental impacts, deliverability and cost. A preliminary design for a new MSCP will be prepared, together with an action plan for its delivery.
