Colin Buchanan is to provide recommendations for tourist signing along the proposed Mourne Coastal Route.
Colin Buchanan has been commissioned by the Northern Ireland Tourist Board to provide recommendations for tourist signing to and along the proposed Mourne Coastal Route.
The overall aim of this project is to establish the 42 mile long car touring route and associated scenic loops within the Mourne area. The proposed route will link the ‘Mourne Signature Tourism Project’ with the four other Signature Tourism Projects in Northern Ireland (namely, the Walled City of Derry, Causeway Coastal Route, Titanic Quarter and St Patrick’s Trail / Christian Heritage project). This will create a continuous route following the entire Northern Ireland coastline from Londonderry to Newry providing visitors with the opportunity to enjoy spectacular scenery and a world class visitor experience.
The provision of comprehensive white on brown tourist signing is viewed as central part of this process helping to orientate visitors and highlight key attractions along the route.
Stephen Bill, NITB Mournes and St Patrick Signature Project Manager said,
“It is vitally important that we establish this 42 mile long car touring route as a world class visitor experience, which sits within the wider Mourne Signature Project. We want to ensure that visitors who come to Northern Ireland experience all that sets it apart as a unique destination, and this route highlights our stunning coastlines and breathtaking scenery. From the moment visitors arrive in Northern Ireland we need to create standards of excellence, from warm welcomes on arrival through to the services they avail of when here, and this car touring route will assure ease of navigation.”
Colin Buchanan will provide detailed recommendations for signing to and along the main route and associated scenic loops. This project is being led by the Northern Ireland Tourist Board in association with the Mourne Heritage Trust, Banbridge District Council, Down District Council, Newry and Mourne City and District Council and the Loughs Agency. It will also involve consultation with other important stakeholders such as Forest Service and Water Service. The study will be completed by March 2010. NITB hope to implement recommendations for signing by March 2011.
