Colin Buchanan’s dedicated Sustainable Travel Team (STT) has been appointed by the City of London Corporation to develop a travel plan to promote and enable more sustainable travel by its staff and members.
It is hoped that this will contribute to the Corporation’s commitment to reducing its impact on climate change and improve accessibility to its sites. The main aims of this travel plan will be to:
We conducted site specific audits and an assessment of existing transport facilities within the City of London, which will feed into the travel plan. An extensive assessment of business policy relating to travel has also been conducted to identify opportunities for improving efficiency and identifying cost savings for the City of London.
The STT developed a comprehensive staff and member travel survey for the Corporation. This explores staff attitudes to travelling by sustainable modes, and assesses staff and member commuting and business travel patterns. The aim of this survey will be to see what the Corporation can do, in particular, to encourage travel by walking and cycling for greater parts of staff and members journeys. We will also calculate an estimate of the Corporation’s commuting and business travel carbon footprint and provide a strategy for their reduction. This will add significant value to the Corporation’s sustainability objectives.
A strategy and action plan is being developed to provide a platform for implementation of travel plan measures.
