Economic Impacts of High Density and Tall Buildings Report

On September 9 The British Property Federation launched the Economic Impacts of High Density and Tall Buildings Report, research undertaken by Colin Buchanan.

This report assessed the economic impacts of commercial high density and tall buildings, principally by modelling the agglomeration impacts of adding jobs to key districts in Central London. This is the first time this type of methodology has been used in a tall buildings context and provides innovative insight into the economic impacts of tall buildings.

By changing only the location and clustering of employment, and holding all other factors constant, a productivity benefit was measured. This benefit was found to be sensitive to location -- putting more jobs in less accessible areas decreases productivity.
