CB China was commissioned by Beijing Metro Construction Company to review the proposed designs for 5 interchange stations on metro line 6.
The study objective is to provide assurance to Beijing Metro Construction Company that the designs developed by China based Design Institutes for the 5 stations are adequate in light of the long term forecast level of demand.
Metro Line 6 will run east/west through central Beijing, providing a critical transport link across a city with a population of 14 million. 36 kilometers (22 miles) of this new line are underground, and the remainder is elevated.
The simulation work involves the development of LEGION models of the proposed layout for both the AM Peak and the PM Peak for a 2037 demand scenario. Fire evacuation tests for the AM Peak for a 2037 demand scenario were also undertaken as part of the study. Sensitivity tests to test the impact of a further increase in demand was also tested. Based on the outputs of the model and comprehensive analysis, CB is providing advice as to how the station design can be optimised, thereby improving the customer experience whilst also identifying opportunities to reduce the construction cost of the stations.
