Colin Buchanan were commissioned by Transport for London to carry out a preliminary masterplan and detailed demand modelling study of Euston Interchange. The interchange is one of the busiest in London, used by over 70 million people a year.
The purpose of the study is to ensure that effective interchange and public realm improvements are incorporated into the high density, mixed use redevelopment of the station building and railway area.
Working closely with the client and stakeholders, Colin Buchanan’s team has undertaken detailed surveys and has developed demand forecasts of passengers by all modes. Pedestrian modelling of the station and surface interchange was used to identify the options to reduce walking distances, improve legibility, relieve congestion and prepare a cost benefit analysis. This provided the basis to identify improvements and to test their effectiveness in the short, medium and long term.
Extensive work was also undertaken on designing options for underground improvements.
