Working for the Department of Transport in an interdisciplinary team with Deloitte in Dublin and the TAS Partnership, Colin Buchanan looked at how Dublin Bus and Bus Éireann provide bus services across Ireland.
This high-profile review involved an in-depth analysis of the Irish bus industry and attracted a corresponding amount of press interest.
The project involved an examination of the appropriateness of the bus companies’ existing network to meet current and future customer demands, an investigation into their cost base as well as detailed analysis of the effectiveness and efficiency with which the resources of both companies are managed and deployed.
Our findings were critical for the Department when determining action needed to ensure compliance with EU Regulation 1370/2007. The report also helped prioritise measures to improve bus network planning and to prepare for structural reforms.
