Colin Buchanan are assisting Manchester Metropolitan University to reduce development impacts whilst improving travel options for staff and students.
The University plans a major redevelopment, with the amalgamation of seven sites into three consolidated campuses in Manchester city centre, Didsbury and Crewe. We have written transport assessments and travel plans to accompany the planning applications.
We reported the results of a University-wide staff and student travel survey to the Directorate using the results to shape the travel plan. This was strengthened by undertaking of student consultation sessions and a GIS exercise to plot home postcodes of staff and students, overlaying the public transport services and walking and cycling catchments to identify who could reasonably use these modes.
We then developed a detailed travel plan with appropriate targets and a parking management strategy. The travel plan will enable the University to target those staff and students who can adopt alternative travel options to the car.
