Shanghai 2010 Expo - China National Pavilion Design Review

CB China was commissioned by the Shanghai Expo Bureau to review the proposed design of the China National Pavilion for Expo 2010, which will be held in Shanghai, China.

With an estimated cost of 1.5 billion RMB (approximately £150m), the pavilion’s design represents a traditional style of architecture, is red and is known as the "Oriental Crown". The China National Pavilion is expected to be the most visited pavilion over the course of what is expected to be the best attended World Expo ever. An estimated 70 million visitors are expected to visit Expo 2010 over the 184 day period, starting on 1 May 2010.

In order to confirm that the preliminary design can safely accommodate the estimated visitor volume of 50,000 per day, a pedestrian model was developed using LEGION Studio. CB China assessed the two optional management plans being considered and identified the advantages and disadvantages of each, as well as providing recommendations to optimise the design and operational plan.
