This video shows a hypothetical junction intersection with four different types of junction control.
These are automatic traffic signals, priority junction, mini-roundabout and shared space (filter-in-turn). Pedestrians have been included in each method of control tested. The east-west carriageway is the major road and the north-south carriageway is the minor road. The major road carries 660 vehicles in each direction and the minor road carries 390 vehicles in each direction. The traffic signal solution can accommodate some 2000 vehicles/hr with journey times of around 38 seconds for major road traffic and 60 seconds for minor road traffic and maximum queue of 74 metres. The uncontrolled filter-in-turn arrangement accommodates some 1700 vehicles/hr and shows journey times of around 78 seconds for major road traffic and 90 seconds for minor road traffic with a maximum queue of 218 metres (which exceeds the link length in the VISSIM model).
