The West Belfast & Greater Shankill Masterplan for Enterprise is a regeneration framework sponsored by the private sector of the city to showcase a series of major regeneration projects capable of transforming the economic performance of the western section of the Belfast city region.

Colin Buchanan and Mackel & Doherty Architects were appointed by the West Belfast and Greater Shankill Enterprise Council to prepare a prospectus for change on behalf of the private investment sector.  The masterplan addressed the development agenda required to create a sustainable business economy within the western sector of the city. It looked at community and cultural infrastructure, FDI and indigenous business needs, commercial opportunities to grow entrepreneurial activity, tourism and visitor economy infrastructure and the quality of life agenda.  A number of projects will be central to the strategy:

• An integrated transport strategy
• Development of new mixed use commercial nodes
• The re-invigoration of traditional urban village locations
• New Gateway design initiatives
• A range of projects related to cultural & tourism attractions which will increase visitors to the west of the city
